Why Should I Meditate?
Learning how to meditate can be a real chore for some. Understandably when you start a new practice of any kind it can be a challenge. My intention today is to provide you all you require to move forward along a path to creating a fulfilling meditation practice. Meditation is actually not all that difficult a practice in itself, yet it can seem intimidating at first glance. What I am setting out to do is to help you by reducing meditation itself to its most fundamental components.
Meditation Benefits
Daily meditation practice will give you more than just a sense of mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical stability. It will effectively do so as well. The interesting thing is that it will do so by just sitting still for a period of time and focusing on very little. It is almost like driving a nail into a board without any tools. Sounds impossible but there is a reason it is so powerful.
Benefits Of Daily Meditation
First, let’s look at some of the benefits of meditation in more detail:
- Meditation can calm the savage beast in you.
- There are physical benefits of meditation. Meditation can also assist you to restore your energy levels for the day’s activities. It has also been shown that meditation gives you more energy and can reduce the requirement for sleep.
- Meditation will help you with all of your senses and also help in controlling your muscular body. Of
course, the brain functions better as well as increasing speech, memory, and the biggy help which is in helping controlling emotions.
- Meditation helps you become and stay grounded. Being grounded allows you to send unwanted energy down to the earth as well as bring earth energy up into your being. This can give you a real sense of clarity.
- There are also spiritual benefits of meditation. Meditation connects you with who you really are, your core being which is Spirit.
The basic purpose of meditation is not to have an empty mind as many think. It is to be able to come to the center when your thoughts do stray.
How To Meditate For Beginners
To begin, you don’t need any special equipment. The only thing is that when you are first set on this path you will require a quiet place.
One useful thing to have is a timer. Lots of people I work with are concerned about time and how long they will be under. They tend to want to check how long they have been meditating. This is very distracting, especially to the novice. Use something that will not tick like an egg timer or the such. A phone works great as long as you don’t get any calls.
As far as the physical position a chair, a couch, or anything to sit or even lay on would be perfect. Basically, whatever makes you comfortable for the period of time you will spend in meditation. Uncomfortable seating arrangements will definitely detract from your experience.
The best way to sit is upright and erect in some form of a seat that allows you to have your feet firmly on the floor. This really helps with the grounding aspect.
Now that you are sitting and your timer set a reasonable time for your ability. For novices start with 15 or 20 minutes. As you progress to increase the time accordingly. Then close your eyes and begin.
Guided Meditation For Beginners
One of the things I recommend when your first begin meditating is to find a couple of basic meditation preferably guided meditations to help get started. This takes much of the stress from your sense of doing it right. Here is a link to two meditations that will start you off, a grounding and centering meditation.

What Meditation Should I Do?
Once have mastered grounding and centering, you never really do master these but you’ll know when it’s time, you can move on to other types and styles.
There is a myriad of meditation styles from different cultures, religions, and for various purposes. Choosing the right style and then learning how to meditate for beginners can be daunting. However, the challenge is well worth it. A regular practice will give you many if not all the benefits we spoke about earlier.
The different meditation styles may also have very specific purposes as in the grounding meditation. There are meditation methods for stress relief, reducing stress and anxiety, concentration, and even types of meditation for pain relief.
How Many Types Of Meditation Exist?
Modern meditation techniques that are used to deal with contemporary difficulties are derived from classical, ancient meditation systems, practices, and techniques. Meditation is an unbelievable old tradition that has a foundation or is the foundation of all spiritual practices in all countries and cultures. Each faith: Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Taoism, Christian, Judaism, Bahai, Islami, Pagan, New Age have their own methods and varied techniques. Some of these go back thousands of years.
We demonstrate some of the basic styles of meditation in this podcast such as Breath meditations, grounding, and visualization. Listen and feel free to record these and use them for your personal practices.
So regardless of which meditation style or mindfulness meditation practice you decide on the benefits of any of these different types of meditation will help you with so many aspects of your life. and not hinder you in any way.
My intention is to give you everything you need to ignite the desire to explore meditation. Meditation is a simplistic exercise, yet it’s one that can seem to be intimidating when first contemplated.
