In order to get the desired work and life balance ‘what career is right for me’ is one of the toughest questions young people and often not so young people ask themselves. So how dowhat kind of job is right for me you make the right career choice? If you are like almost everyone else on this planet you have wondered about your career choices in one way or the other. Whether you are currently in the right job or looking to make a change there are so many factors affecting career choices. So many questions to ask yourself before making a job decision:

  • What kind of job is right for me?
  • How to choose a career?
  • How to create a career assessment?
  • Should I take a job I don’t want for the money?
  • When to turn down a job offer?
  • Should I take the job or wait for something better?
  • Making the right career choice?
  • What to consider before accepting a job offer?
  • Most confusing at times, what to do next in my life?

And one of the most confusing at times, what to do next in my life?

What Career Is Right For Me Can Be A Turmoil

Finding the right career can be a very challenging part of your life. Also, the factoring in of your spiritual nature as a component in the search may compete with worldly wants and desires. When my students and clients come to me with this type of query, and they do often, I try to guide them in finding a purpose to which they are best suited and can devote themselves as opposed to answering a career based question.

There is a difference between, career and your life purpose. Many people confuse work with the purpose of life. They live to work. We look at a very pertinent question “What is my life purpose?” which may be different than their career aptitude but must be recognized. All considered, it is a tough question to answer for most. This is even truer if you factor in the spiritual considerations as well. If you can choose well out of the huge career list it can a person’s spiritual growth and vice versa.

Is Life Purpose A Synonym For Career?

Just to be clear a life purpose is not equal to a career. For most people, what they do for a how to make career choicesliving, their job, is usually just that a job. It is a way to earn an income to live. Money is not the most important thing in the world but it helps. I have heard a saying that I do not necessarily adhere to, agree with or recommend you do but it does explain the concept of money most people have quite well. ‘Money doesn’t buy happiness but I would rather be rich and depressed than poor and depressed.’

In our world, as physical beings, many of us actually most of us strive to be rewarded for things that we do. Whether it is praise, a pat on the back a hug or other ways that people can show their thanks. This system of compensation for work accomplished has been around for a long time. However, studies have shown that money is not the greatest factor in motivating people.

Why Should I Work For You?

When looking for a position it is not out of the question to consider companies that offer wider opportunities through departmental promotion as well as other positive areas of organizational pluses. Here are a few of what can be considered as positive aspects of good employment in different types of careers:

  • Personal Growth, Learning, and Development: When an employee is urged to advance their skills through training and development it shows them that they are considered to be important to the company and employers that they are connected with. Understanding that there is room to grow within their position and as an individual is highly motivational.
    When looking for a career and a firm one thing that should be considered is if they support their employees with skill build training of some sort.
  • Workplace Environment: Environment is a key factor in an employee’s attitude to their output. This is not only true for work but for at home or any other area of your life. Would you frequent a restaurant who had a not so”nice” environment regardless of the value of the meal? The same goes for shopping or any other locale that you may entertain visiting.

  • Being Recognized: Who doesn’t enjoy being noticed for doing something well. Which of you would not appreciate being told that they are doing a good job verbally or with some form of remuneration? Whatever the form of this comes in it should be a true evaluation of the work done. One of the highest forms of recognition is that that comes when someone receives a formal recognition in a presentation with their peers present.
  • Increased Responsibility: If you ever babysat or was in charge of something “important” when you were a youth you how special responsibility can make you feel. This feeling does not change with age. Know just what your contribution is in business can give you a real boost. When you feel that you are an important piece of the business machinery your sense of self-pride is tweaked. If an employee is made to feel like a partner they will act like one.
  • Career Structure And Progression: Training and skill development are important however not the end all be all. One of the hardest things to do in a work environment is to go to work every, day in day out doing the exact same thing consistently with a chance of ever realizing a change. People like to change and to grow personally. Stagnation creates a dull personality and spirit. In order to strive at doing something exceptionally well, there needs to be a personal motivation to advance oneself. The main reason most individuals look for new positions is not that of money it is they are not being challenged personally.

Regardless of the categories of jobs when individuals feel that their jobs or careers are more related to a broader purpose even what could be considered a life purpose their production is far greater. This is where life-work balance comes into play.

How To Find The Right Career For Me?

For individuals who are looking for some deeper relationship between work and their life purpose, how to choose from all the categories of jobsthe term vocations may come to mind. A vocation is usually rooted in some form of service and quite often in a humanitarian or spiritual sense. For these individuals, it does not suffice to just look for a job regardless of how meaningful it may be. People need to clearly define what they are looking for and then persistently seek it. “Fulfilling careers seldom happen by chance. People who find personally meaningful vocations do so because they assume responsibility for their journeys.” as stated in Your Soul at Work by Nicholas Weiler.

I think that individuals have many unique talents that they can direct in many different directions. The one main consideration we aim for in my interaction with my students and clients in regards to making the best career decisions is to look at it intuitively and spiritually. The main goal is to ensure that a sense of personal fulfillment will be achieved by the endeavors they select as well as keeping in mind the benefits to the greater good in some way if possible.

Whether you turn to a Google job search or some other career finder website or organization there is an answer to how to make the right career choice for you!
