One thing every living thing on this planet and is that they need to breathe in some manner. But breathing is not just required to live. It is also necessary to live well and healthily. Did you know that you can use breathing exercises for stress relief and many other health and emotional issues that you may encounter in your life?

Yes, just simple breathing techniques, deep breathing exercises can change your life. Breathing is an autonomic function which you and almost everyone else mostly ignore. Until you can’t or have any issues altering your ability to take in that required oxygen, we all need to stay alive.

You can miss a meal. You can miss going for a walk; you can cut a night’s sleep; you can even skip a heartbeat. However, you can never miss a breath. If you do, that’s it for this life journey. You die.

How can breathing in a different manner benefit you?

As you breathe and take in oxygen, you then exhale and what comes out is carbon dioxide. This function is the simple science of it as you breathe, your heart rate changes.

Inhalation causes your heart rate to go up slightly, and on exhalation, it goes back down slightly. Your body uses the oxygen that you inhale is a form of fuel that your body uses to create energy.

Too much oxygen and your body will have too much energy, and your internal furnace may go a little haywire and cause oxidative stress, which may be detrimental to your cells and tissue. Too little fuel, not enough oxygen, and your body will not create the energy you need to live.

When have you been taught to breathe correctly? Do you remember being told of the benefits that come with doing so? Probably never.

As you run or exert yourself, you cause an increase in the amount of oxygen entering your system, giving it more fuel, which will increase energy.

The opposite is true as you slow down the breathing process. You will take in less oxygen, relax you, and reduce blood pressure, which is an essential positive health benefit.

The issue is that most individuals tend to allow their breathing to be erratic at times, and this may have unpleasant adverse effects.

Too much oxygen in the body from forced over-breathing can cause oxidative stress that may lead to:

  • cellular damage
  • inflammation
  • arterial plaque and corrosion
  • free radicals that attack your system, which lead to DNA and protein issues which can cause cell death
  • Autoimmune issues

Too little oxygen in the body from not breathing deeply enough may lead to:

  • sad moods
  • depression
  • lack of energy
  • lack of motivation
